What are Stances in Sanctum Lex?

Definition

Stances are Sanctum Lex’s review perspectives for examining the same authorized matter record. Internal Strategy considers the team’s position and next steps; Opposing Counsel challenges weaknesses and competing interpretations; Judicial Review evaluates the positions neutrally. Stances change the analytical objective, not the underlying facts or permissions. The output is a review aid, not a prediction of a court’s decision or a substitute for professional judgment.

One record, different questions

Internal Strategy might ask which proof strengthens an argument. Opposing Counsel might ask which admission undermines it. Judicial Review might ask which party carries the burden and what remains unproved. All three should preserve the source record and its uncertainty.

Changing the tone of an answer is not the same as substantive challenge. A useful adverse review identifies evidence, assumptions and counterarguments that a favorable account may overlook.

A practical example

In an earn-out dispute, a management email may support operational integration while appearing inconsistent with a later explanation of lost revenue. Strategy examines how to prove attribution; adverse review tests alternative causes; neutral review separates chronology from causation.

The same email must not change meaning to suit the selected perspective. A lawyer should compare the reasoning and verify each cited premise.

Review has limits

A stance cannot supply evidence absent from the record or verify law merely by expressing confidence. If an argument depends on an authority, research and pinpoint verification remain separate tasks.

Use the review to surface gaps and prepare decisions. Do not describe a stance’s output as an actual opponent’s position or a judicial determination.
